Surya Varshan, a 22-year-old from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, launched the D2C brand ‘Naked Nature.’ His entrepreneurial journey began in 12th grade with a simple product, Hibiscus Bath Salt, made in his kitchen. Today, Naked Nature is valued at over Rs 10 crore.
In class 12, Surya used the Rs 200 he collected from pocket money from his devoted parents to produce his first product, a hibiscus-infused bath salt, taking advantage of Thoothukudi, his hometown, which has an abundance of salt resources. Surya’s drive never wavered despite his advanced age, which led many to dismiss his attempts. Every weekend, he would drive to Madurai to support his fledgling business while juggling his studies in BE Engineering in Chennai.
Surya’s age frequently led to doubts, making initial sales tough. Despite this, he continued to push forward. His breakthrough came when an Ayurvedic physician made a notable purchase after being impressed with the bath salt samples. This pivotal moment boosted Surya’s confidence and inspired him to enroll in a college in Madurai, where he studied digital marketing through YouTube tutorials.
Surya made about Rs 2.20 lakh per month teaching digital marketing online to subsidize his business. He put these profits back into Naked Nature, which today offers seventy items covering skin, hair, and bath care, among other categories. The brand made an astounding amount of money—Rs 56 lakh—in just the fiscal year 2021–2022.
The Madurai-based company Naked Nature produces goods that are sold online and in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. Today, Surya Varshan is a living example of what can be accomplished with perseverance and creativity—he turned a meager Rs 200 business into a 10-crore company.
