Bengaluru has a notorious reputation for heavy traffic and hours-long jams. The IT city was one of the two Indian towns listed in the top ten most congested cities in the world for 2023. It was also ranked as the second-most-crowded city in the world that same year. Poor planning, a lack of public transportation choices, and rapid urbanization are just a few of the factors contributing to the daily gridlock on the city’s highways during rush hour. In response, a Bengaluru-based businessman has proposed adopting a Chinese concept to assist locals in coping with everyday traffic jams.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Paras Chopra shared a screenshot of a news article detailing a unique service in Beijing. The article explains that commuters stuck in traffic can pay $60 for a “rescue.” In this service, a motorbike picks up the commuter while another person drives their car to the intended destination.
Sharing the screenshot, Mr. Chopra commented, “Bangalore entrepreneurs, forget about your SaaS ideas and create this instead.”
Social media users responded to Mr. Chopra’s post with great speed. While some people expressed amusement at the concept, others pointed out that it wouldn’t function in Bengaluru’s extremely congested traffic.
“That works only if the car drivers follow lane discipline in the first place,” a user commented. “Overall, it will result in more traffic. As a result, you will experience more traffic jams than before. Thus, you would forego and use Uber. that you are capable of doing it now, “said another.
“In Bengaluru, launching a traffic congestion rescue service might completely change urban transportation. We can significantly lessen traffic congestion and enhance traffic flow by sending out motorcycle rescues and guiding automobiles to their destinations. A third user stated, “Seamless integration and compliance are ensured by partnering with local authorities.”
This is a possible pilot project for large cities; however, building a framework based on trust is the primary challenge. But insurance firms might intervene by adding a new policy subsection,” said a second person.
“Indian traffic jams are on another level, even two-wheelers get stuck,” commented one user.
On Wednesday, Mr. Chopra shared the post. It has received over 3,000 likes and over 92,000 views since then.
