Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Young India Skills University, a new initiative by the Telangana government in partnership with the private sector. The university is set to offer skills training to young people across various industries. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced this appointment during a meeting with the Telugu Diaspora in New Jersey as part of his visit to the United States to seek investment.
The Chief Minister announced, “Anand Mahindra will take on the role of the university’s chairman in two days.”
He added, “I asked Mahindra to take on the position of chairman, and he agreed.”
August 2: At a meeting in Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy requested that Anand Mahindra take over as head of the Young India Skills University. In the Assembly, the Chief Minister had earlier declared that a renowned business magnate and a renowned scholar would be named vice chancellor and chairman of the university, respectively.
During the August 2 meeting, Anand Mahindra agreed to help the Young India Skills University’s automotive department. Additionally, he said that his business would send a team to the university to visit. The institution will provide instruction in 17 fields, including electric and automotive vehicles.
On August 1, the state assembly approved a bill to establish the institution. On the same day, the Chief Minister officially opened the university’s permanent campus on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The Young India Skills University will start functioning from a temporary campus and will provide courses in six key fields for the 2024–25 academic year.
Leading companies have already pledged to collaborate with the university across six schools: Pharma and Life Sciences, E-commerce and Logistics, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Construction and Interiors, Retail Operations and Management, and Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics.
