Cobalt, a leading provider of advanced security solutions, has named Sonali Shah, an Indian-American, as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Shah, who previously served on Cobalt’s board, has assumed her role at a time of notable growth and innovation for the company, according to a report by American Bazaar on Thursday.
Originally from Potomac, MD, and now based in Boston, Shah brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology sector to her new role.
Sonali Shah’s expertise is in scaling high-growth technology companies, with a distinguished background that includes pioneering work at Bitsight Security Ratings, where she developed the first cybersecurity risk rating platform. She has also significantly advanced application security technologies at Veracode and Invicti and has experience as an investment banker with Credit Suisse.
“I am thrilled to join Cobalt at this pivotal moment,” Shah said, as quoted by American Bazaar. “Cobalt is uniquely positioned to help enterprises manage the risks associated with their expanding attack surfaces through effective and continuous offensive security programs. I look forward to collaborating with Cobalt’s exceptional team to drive the next phase of the company’s growth, with a strong focus on delivering maximum value to our customers as their offensive security needs evolve.
Chris Manton-Jones, who has been in charge of Cobalt since April 2022, is replaced by Shah.
She graduated from the London School of Economics with a master’s degree in economics and the Wharton School with an MBA. Shah has joined the Cobalt board and is an advisor on the Threatx board in addition to her current position at Shibumi. She also advises entrepreneurs through Springboard Enterprises and Astia and is dedicated to assisting non-profits that promote education through her work with Hestia and the GreenLight Fund.
Shah declared, “I am thrilled to join the amazing team at Cobalt,” expressing her excitement about joining the company. As the leader in PtaaS and the driving force behind offensive security testing, Cobalt helps businesses of all kinds cut risk fast and effectively. Together with Cobalt, I’m excited to contribute to its journey and open up new horizons by bringing my operational expertise and cybersecurity knowledge to bear.”
Shah is the second member of her immediate family to hold a CEO position; her husband, Praveen Tipirneni, is the CEO of Morphic Therapeutic, which was recently acquired by Eli Lilly in July.
