Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s LinkedIn profile has gained viral attention after observant social media users spotted that the billionaire executive had listed roles as a waiter and busboy among his past experiences.
Jensen Huang, 61, is the Taiwan-born American entrepreneur leading Nvidia, the world’s most valuable chipmaker. During his youth in Oregon in the 1980s, Huang worked as a dishwasher, waiter, and busboy at Denny’s. This American fast-food chain has received an honorable mention on Huang’s LinkedIn profile.
However, there are some notable gaps in his work history. After graduating from university, Huang worked as the director of CoreWare at LSI Logic and as a microprocessor designer at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). These positions are missing from his LinkedIn profile, which skips from 1983 to 1993, the year he founded Nvidia at the age of 30.
Today, Huang, who is valued at $102 billion, has shared insights about his modest beginnings.
“I had all kinds of jobs, and we went to a school with lots of chores,” Huang recounted last year during a fireside chat with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison. He noted that while his parents were “not wealthy,” they instilled in him the importance of hard work.
He said in the conversation, “You know, I used to clean bathrooms, and now I run a company as the CEO.”
Huang began working at Denny’s as a dishwasher when he was a teenager and quickly moved up to busboy and then waiter. It was at this Denny’s outlet that Huang later met Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, co-founders of Nvidia, in 1993, leading to the creation of the company.
